As my family makes the transition to Amarillo, we join countless others in search of a good home, good neighborhood, a good school. People everywhere are looking for good doctors, good lawyers, good mechanics, a good gym and maybe a good church. We desire to find a good restaurant, watch a good movie, and above all find good coffee.
Like you, I look for these things too. However, each time we find one it doesn’t seem to satisfy to the degree we expected or match the length we went in discovery. We are left with a feeling that there is more to be had in this life than we do.
I want to tell you there is!
Every time I fly I am amazed at how everything looks from that altitude compared to how it does when I am driving in the middle of it. When our focus is on the little things we will get stressed and worn out. When we learn to chase after the good life more than the good little things we find freedom. We gain a satisfaction like never before.
The Psalmist writes,
Let all that I am praise the lord ; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. Let all that I am praise the lord ; may I never forget the good things he does for me. For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here. But the love of the lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments!
